Point-of Care CME
TRMC is now offering a new CME opportunity for physicians called Point-of-Care CME. The AMA and AAFP recognize Point-of-Care CME as practice-based learning that takes place in support of specific patient care.
The physician uses an approved internet-based clinical decision-making support tool at the point of care to research a medical question and then applies the recommendation appropriately to the patient. Even in cases when the evidence-based recommendation is not appropriate for the patient, the physician still learns something in the process. Since this is relevant, evidence-based continuing medical education that meets a physician's specific learning needs, it is appropriate to award Category 1 credit for documented point-of-care learning activities.
TRMC can award 0.5 credits for every point-of-care learning activity that utilizes an approved Point-of-Care CME source and is delivered by an ACCME-accredited CME provider. The following activity elements must be documented: 1) The learner's question; 2) The search of an AMA or AAFP-approved source; 3) Implementation of new knowledge in practice.
Point of care documentation forms are available in each MD dictation area as well as online. There is also a box to deposit completed forms.
To be awarded the appropriate credit, please click here to print out the Point-of-Care CME form. Send the completed form to CME Coordinator Lennie Vollmer, RN. You can have your office place the completed form in the TRMC Outreach and Development Department mailbox at the hospital; give to any of the personnel in the Medical Staff Services office at the hospital; fax to 229-353-6317; or, mail to Lennie’s attention at 152 S. Ridge Avenue, Tifton, Georgia, 31794.

Performance Improvement CME
TRMC can award CME credit for performance improvement (PI) and quality improvement (QI) activities, including:
- PI/QI activity selection, measurement and evaluation.
- Disease management modules.
- Evidence-based practices .
All activities must demonstrate an impact on physician competence, physician performance or patient outcomes. Recent examples of PI/QI CME projects include a sepsis guidelines initiative and a childhood obesity/cardiovascular disease performance improvement study.
